Frames is a new digital platform established by Portugal’s leading online newspaper with support from Google’s DNI Fund. It’s focused on creating great visual data-based content that can clearly illustrate emerging news topics in the contents of news segments to be seamlessly integrated within the articles as they are being produced.



Naming
As a concept, Frames™ came out as a straightforward way to describe visual inputs that can “frame” some aspect of reality. To frame something is to put it into perspective and add some context that gives the observer a better view and scope of what is being observed. A frame on a painting enhances the beauty of the art it holds the same way that a relevant card placed along an article enriches its content, making it more compelling and engaging.

Logo Identity
The Frames brand identity should be able to reflect all the richness its naming holds. We wanted more than a logo; we wanted to “frame” this brand with a distinctive monogram to reinforce brand awareness and potential recall, even when the logo is displayed as a single element.


We wanted it to be real, so we made it real using two tridimensional elements and played with it until it revealed the monographic shape that framed the whole brand identity.






Visual Narrative™
As the product evolves into different card categories, segmentation will be required. The Frames™ identity was already designed to be able to extend its reach to different sub-product labels like maps, listing our graphs in a cohesive and coherent visual narrative.

Brand Signature
Know for a Fact™ serves as a claim and also as a statement to address the brand’s commitment to fact-based content production: a corporate positioning message that enhances the trustworthiness and credibility of Frames as an editorial company.
